College Life: Freshman Fall Semester at USC

Only 2 weeks left until classes end and my first semester at the University of Southern California draws to a close. This has been the first time in my life living in another state, being away from my family, and having complete responsibility for everything I say and do… and it’s been the most amazing and unbelievably blessing experience of my life.

Last summer I was accepted into USC School of Cinematic Arts in Los Angeles, California where I have been studying Media Arts and Practice since mid-August. Since then a great number of things have happened…

I’ve met too many people to remember and several I could never forget and call friends. I have lived with seven other girls, shared a bathroom with four, helped a totally wasted friend, skipped a class or two, been in fear of sick people all around me, completed homework for classes I actually enjoy and attended my first football game.

I have ventured out into the City of Angels, eaten tasty food and terrible food, visited the beach which I never had back home (AZ), petted adorable therapy dogs, and met people from Spain, Mexico, China, India, etc. I’ve slept in until 12:00pm and had lazy days of nothingness, but also three midterms all in one week. I saw Disney’s Moana before its release in theaters, I’ve been met with stunned faces every time I say I attend SCA, I spent too much money on a USC sweatshirt and hat (but their cute I guess), I got homesick and miss my family but I know I’m making them proud.

I am living my life to the fullest and am happier than I’ve ever been in my life. I know I am where I want to be and this entire experience has shown me that if you want something bad enough and you fight for it hard enough- you’ll get there and no matter how many times you fail there is success in life for you too.

I would never have known that all of this was possible had I at one point let rejection get the best of me, and it nearly did but I completed the application process for USC SCA and… well, you know how the rest of the story goes now.
